The Scott County Board of Education is now accepting applications for a principal at Robbins Elementary School.

Job Title: Principal

Qualifications: Minimum of a master’s degree in school administration, a current Tennessee administrator’s license, and a minimum of five successful years of teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Has demonstrated ability as an instructional leader as a teacher or administrator. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills. Has knowledge of federal, state, and local program guidelines. Possesses skill and knowledge of budgetary and purchasing procedures. Displays strong interpersonal skills in dealing with students, teachers, and parents.

Reports to: Director of Schools

Job Goal: To manage assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student and make the school facility an attractive, pleasant, and productive place in which to work and learn.

Supervises: All certified and classified employees of the Board assigned to the school and all other resources and service personnel while functioning in the assigned school, off-site locations, or on the school grounds.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance by the school’s staff and students of all school rules, administrative regulations, Board policies, State Board of Education regulations, and the school laws of Tennessee.
  • Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Programs classes within established guides to meet student needs.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s certified staff.
  • Make recommendations concerning transfers, promotions, demotions, and dismissal of all personnel under his/her supervision.
  • Supervises and directs the activities of all certified and classified staff members in the performance of their duties in the school building or on the school grounds.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, and substitute teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instruction.
  • Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training.
  • Approves in the assignment of student teachers and assists in the supervision and evaluation of student teachers.
  • Visits classrooms for observation of the teaching-learning process and provides for follow-up conferences with individual teachers.
  • Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for the conduct and welfare of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for conferences and decisions in relation to probations, suspensions, and discipline of students.
  • Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies, and statutes.
  • Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  • Provides leadership and assumes responsibility for textbooks, textbook funds, and the various activity funds generated by student activities.
  • Plan fire drills; oversee school-sponsored activities, including athletics, teacher meetings; oversee school exhibits, school cafeteria, summer school and evening activities in the building.
  • Assume responsibility for the graduation program and certifies students for graduation. (high school only)
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paper work required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Reports to appropriate central office administrative officers regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.
  • Supervises bus and automobile traffic on the school grounds.
  • Assure the security of the school building and the equipment.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the director may assign from time to time.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the director of schools.


Terms of Employment: Twelve month contract with salary as established by the Board of Education.
